It was a strange year for me and I don’t think I read quite as many books as in years past, but I’ve compiled a list of those I’ve read in my Kindle and can tell you what I did read was pretty great.
I have a wide variety of genres in there, but tend to lean toward Post Apoc it seems; though that’s predictable. This list is in ascending order; starting in January. In years past, I was able to pick one or two standout favorites…this was not that year. Some of them linger with me like Alas Babylon, a book I reread this year. This entire list is excellent. If there was a book I didn’t particularly enjoy, I didn’t list it. So I just cannot pick a favorite this year. Instead, I’ll say a few words about each below…whatever comes to mind from the memory of having read the book. If it’s on this list…I enjoyed the book very much and totally recommend the read.
This was my last read of 2016. And could not have ended the year better. Patriot Deception is excellently written, a real page-turner…Ross Elder is an author to watch. I hear he’s now working on a postapoc series…
Fireman Saga is a four story series that I’ve recently had the pleasure of reading.
I hear there are more stories coming as well. These are short stories or novellas and easily read in one or two sitting.
What I loved about the series was the voice. Fireman Saga is written in first person from the vigilante’s point of view and it’s a refreshing change. I’ve gotta say, Ross Elder writes like he’s there in the moment. This is a rare author’s talent and he’s got it. I’ll certainly keep up to date with his new releases.
I hate giving much away but I’ll say this…in the first short story you meet a man who’s done with society’s corruption. He takes matters into his own hands and does it in a way that makes you cheer him on.
If you like thriller action and vigilante justice…this series is for you. You’ll not be disappointed. I know many of my postapocalyptic fans will enjoy this series. The author’s creative exploits and humor really make the series enjoyable.
Here’s a description from Amazon from The Fireman which is priced at only .99
In a world where looking the other way is the norm, one man makes the life altering decision to make a stand.
This short story explores the events that created the character “The Fireman” who will be at the center of an adventure series titled The Fireman Saga. A common man, unable to reconcile the lawlessness around him, takes the path of the vigilante, disposing of society’s problems in his own, creative ways.
A statement from the defendants of author Robert Akard vs. AR Shaw and others.
We are aware that comments have been made on various social media posts about a lawsuit filed by Bobby Akard. We believe that Robert B. Akard’s (Akart) lawsuit is without merit, and that the litigation process will expose it as such. We are fully defending the lawsuit and are confident any claims against us will be dismissed. We are also vigorously pursuing a counterclaim against Akard for abuse of process. Due to the nature of litigation and out of respect for the process, this will likely be our only public comment about the lawsuit.
I’m really happy with the way they all turned out! Each book design is centered on a location and the season that it’s in. The China Pandemic is located near Seattle and that’s Mount Rainer in the background. The story begins in Autumn.
For The Cascade Preppers, we went with a winter scene on the frozen lake near the fictional town of Cascade which is really near Rockport, Washington near the Cascade Mountains. I love how Hristo captured the frozen dread of the situation.
Then for The Last Infidels, set in Hope, Canada, during the spring, we went with this scene.
And finally, for The Malefic Nation, during the summer months, set near Ross Lake in Washington State. I love the subtle summer skyline on this one.
It will take a few days for the new covers to propagate over. I hope you like them as much as I do.
You can check out more of Hristo’s work below. He really is a talented cover artist and a great to work with.
Book Two in the Surrender the Sun series is coming along. I will tell you that this one will focus more nationally and the third book will focus more globally. And, if you’re not familiar with the Maunder Minimum, please look into it. There have been several new scientific warnings that have come out recently. –Odd when the thing you write about …might just come true. Shivers
Also, the German edition of The China Pandemic, titled, Survivor, it doing fantastic. It’s stayed in the number one position of Post Apocalyptic for well over a week now. I’m so thankful to the Luzifer-Verlag publishers. They have asked for the second book, The Cascade Preppers, and it’s now in translation.
There will be another special announcement, in the next week or so concerning the Graham’s Resolution series. But for now…I’ll leave you with a few books I’ve read recently and recommend.
I wrote a blog post about this one recently. I cannot recommend this one enough. This author is VERY talented. Please give this one a try. It takes a lot to get me to weep while reading anymore…this one did.
I know Ross from The Edler Statesman. He’s also a great resource as a retired combat vet from the War in Afghanistan…and the man can write from the heart! He’s truly talented.
This is a story that tugged at my heartstrings for many reasons. Not only does it start with a child’s plight of abuse, the survival of such a life leads him to become a man with traits few are granted and equipt to deal with when confronted with the harsh world of the Perseid Collapse. I’ve not read a story like this…it’s unique.
I won’t say more and end up spoiling the story. I just encourage you to read Scavenger. You can buy the trilogy or purchase them one by one. You won’t be sorry. I was truly, blown away, and I’m certainly going to check out his other titles.
